Biddulph Police poised to make move

Princess StreetThe police in Biddulph could be relocating to Princess Street after declaring their current position in the Town Hall as not fit for purpose.

The new location under consideration is next to the Fire Station and if ambulance crews can be encouraged to work from the same site all three emergency service would be located together.

Jobs fair a hit in Biddulph

karen_jobs_fairKaren Bradley was delighted to host her third jobs and skills fair, and the second to be held in Biddulph, at Victoria Hall in the Methodist Church on Friday 4th April.

She said:

“It was great to get so many organisations who have jobs on offer or can help people find work together in one room for job seekers in Biddulph to talk to.  We have very low unemployment in the Moorlands, but I am always looking for practical ways to help people who need jobs, so it was great to see people coming to get advice or swap details with potential employers at the Jobs Fair.” [Read more…]

Biddulph vehicle owners urged to be vigilant

car-window-smashersSince the New Year there have been 13 reported thefts from vehicles, including seven reported over the weekend.

Officers have stepped-up patrols in the area to deter would-be thieves and are urging motorists to make sure they secure their vehicles and remove valuables. [Read more…]

Side street parking could be limited in Biddulph

Stringer-streetTime may soon be up for motorists who park their cars all day in one of the town centre’s side streets.

Parking bays with a one hour maximum stay limit could be introduced to Stringer Street to stop drivers leaving their cars there all day following complaints from traders and residents about parked cars blocking the street. [Read more…]

Biddulph Rotary holds ‘Youth Speaks’ Competition

RSJnrTeamPrizeOnce again the Rotary Club of Biddulph has organised the ‘Youth Speaks’ Competition for teams of young speakers from Biddulph schools.

The event was held at the Victoria Community Centre on Monday 25th November with 6 teams of three speakers taking part, representing James Bateman Junior High School, Biddulph High School and Our Lady of Grace Catholic Academy. The subjects chosen by the teams were both diverse and challenging, ranging from ‘Deforestation’, ‘Euthanasia’ and ‘Stranger Danger’. No to Biddulph crossing

stop2Calls to reinstate a crossing patrol near the junction of Congleton Road and Woodhouse Lane have been turned down by Staffordshire County Council.

Parents of children at the nearby Woodhouse Middle School were concerned over child safety after the Lollipop lady service was removed in 2009 but a study at the crossing point revealed that from 8am until 9am only four pedestrians used the crossing and 811 cars passed the spot. Following the assessment it has been deemed that due to the low numbers the crossing does not meet the criteria necessary to reinstate a crossing warden.
