Biddulph Police poised to make move

Princess StreetThe police in Biddulph could be relocating to Princess Street after declaring their current position in the Town Hall as not fit for purpose.

The new location under consideration is next to the Fire Station and if ambulance crews can be encouraged to work from the same site all three emergency service would be located together.

Sainsbury’s get go ahead in Alsager

sainsburysPermission has been granted for the new Sainsbury’s supermarket to be built on the former Twyford’s Bathrooms site off Linley Lane.

The application that split opinion in the village was voted in by 9-0 in favour by Cheshire East planners. Many traders and business fear that the out of town development could be a death knell for the high street but a number of residents and shoppers (up to 90 percent according to some surveys) say they want the extra choice a new supermarket will bring. Tribute to Alsager station volunteer

Marks memorial Janet and station friends2A lasting tribute to long-serving Alsager station volunteer, Mark Hampton, who died last year, has been unveiled at Alsager station on the North Staffordshire Line.

The tribute is a memorial plaque, funded by North Staffordshire Community Rail Partnership (NSCRP) and East Midlands Trains, which has been installed on Platform 2. [Read more…]

Jobs fair a hit in Biddulph

karen_jobs_fairKaren Bradley was delighted to host her third jobs and skills fair, and the second to be held in Biddulph, at Victoria Hall in the Methodist Church on Friday 4th April.

She said:

“It was great to get so many organisations who have jobs on offer or can help people find work together in one room for job seekers in Biddulph to talk to.  We have very low unemployment in the Moorlands, but I am always looking for practical ways to help people who need jobs, so it was great to see people coming to get advice or swap details with potential employers at the Jobs Fair.” [Read more…]

Challenge to make Kidsgrove thrive again

Entering the ‘Revive & Thrive Challenge’ involved telling the judges about the Team’s ideas for connecting with the local community and how it would benefit the town. The judges were particularly looking for entries that considered how retail and town/city centres could be used as a conduit to successful engagement and connectivity to the community. [Read more…]

Biddulph vehicle owners urged to be vigilant

car-window-smashersSince the New Year there have been 13 reported thefts from vehicles, including seven reported over the weekend.

Officers have stepped-up patrols in the area to deter would-be thieves and are urging motorists to make sure they secure their vehicles and remove valuables. [Read more…]

Could the council care less?

day-careStaffordshire County Council have made the decision to close Kidsgrove Day Centre in Gloucester Road which will affect hundereds of vulnerable adults, despite a public outcry to keep the service.

A consultation revealed that 80 percent of 750 respondents rejected the proposals and don’t want the service, which is used by vulnerable adults with complex learning difficulties, to close. Over 4000 people have signed an online petition to keep the services, a hundred campaigners made a protest march from Kidsgrove to Newcastle in a bid to stop the proposals, MP Joan Walley has raised the issue in the House of Commons and some councillors have raised concerns that alternative provision is not yet available. Kidsgrove Waterfront Project consultation

HarecastleNorthThe Kidsgrove Town Team are holding a consultation on their proposals for a Kidsgrove Waterfront Project.

The Town Team thinks that the canal is an important asset for the town and wants to see if it can be used as a focus for improving facilities and attracting visitors.

A number of project ideas have been proposed – some can be done quite quickly, some will take longer, some will only happen if we can get grant funding and some will be in the hands of other organisations….  [Read more…]

captive-media2Local computer specialists Manor PCs Ltd have teamed up with Captive Media to install the world’s first retrofit networked washroom gaming system … with hands-free control… at the Unicorn Sports Bar in Congleton.

The state of the art captive media system, which has been demonstated on the TV show Dragons Den, consists simply of a hi-definition screen, fitted at eye level above the urinal, where it commands the full attention of the user.
