Tribute to Alsager station volunteer

Marks memorial Janet and station friends2A lasting tribute to long-serving Alsager station volunteer, Mark Hampton, who died last year, has been unveiled at Alsager station on the North Staffordshire Line.

The tribute is a memorial plaque, funded by North Staffordshire Community Rail Partnership (NSCRP) and East Midlands Trains, which has been installed on Platform 2.

Mark was one of the original members of the Alsager Station Friends, who have been tending the station gardens since 2007. He showed his devotion to the station and the group by asking that donations in his memory be made to the Friends.

Faye Lambert, Project Manager for the NSCRP said: “Mark was one of our longest serving volunteers on the Crewe-Derby route. Alsager station was very precious to him and he always joined in with great enthusiasm all the volunteer and community activities. He will be sadly missed by us all.”

Rob Burton, Station Manager at East Midlands Trains, said: “Mark was a great example of a dedicated station volunteer. We hope the memorial will serve to recognise the true community spirit he showed for Alsager station.”
