
A great ‘Deal’ for Kidsgrove

The Town Deal for Kidsgrove is an exciting and unprecedented opportunity to bid for significant investment of up to £25 million to facilitate future economic growth.
To be in with a chance to access the funding, a Town Investment Plan (TIP) must be submitted by the end of October 2020.
The Town Deal Board are working hard to put together a TIP that will bring real and lasting economic benefits to Kidsgrove and the surrounding area.

It is fantastic to be able to announce that the refurbishment of Kidsgrove Sports Centre will get underway in October, when the developer will arrive on site. This is a landmark moment after what has been 3 long years of continued work from our charitable organisation.
The £6million refurbishment of the sports centre will enable the community to have access once again to affordable sports provision. The centre will be community run, which will mean that every £1 spent in the centre, will get invested back into the centre. This is one of the real exciting benefits of community managed centres and success going forward will be in the hands of our community.

Lidl have confirmed construction is well underway at their Kidsgrove store and due to be complete early next year.
Over the next few months they will begin to advertise the new jobs the store will create on their careers website.
Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property, Dominic Bryan, commented: “There’s been much anticipation for this new Lidl store and it’s great that we are now entering the final stages of the development. We are extremely grateful for all the support that we have received so far and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding whilst we continue with this phase of the development.”
Biddulph Town Council takes on management of Town Hall, Grange Visitor Centre, and Bus Hub

Biddulph Town Council has taken on the management of three buildings in the town, with the hopes of ensuring they are “accessible and well-run” for residents.
The council will now manage Biddulph Town Hall, Biddulph Grange Country Park’s visitor centre, and the town centre’s Bus Hub.
The changes were announced by the authority on Monday 7th September, and discussed at a meeting of the town council on Tuesday 8th September.
Managing Biddulph Town Hall – where Biddulph Town Council is based – has been a long-standing ambition of the town council, with the building previously being managed by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.
[Read more…]Councillors vote to adopt Local Plan

Staffordshire Moorlands District Councillors have voted to adopt the Local Plan, which outlines how the area will be developed, in order to comply with Government house building targets.
The plan includes details of over 900 new houses that are to be built in Biddulph between now and 2033, with land being removed from the Green Belt to make room for some of these.
The vote marks a significant milestone for a process that has been with the authority for years.
Commenting at the meeting, Biddulph town and district Cllr Nigel Yates said: “I would like to take the time to thank all those in Biddulph who worked on the Neighbourhood Plan and presented evidence to the inspector, as well as those who worked to save areas of the Green Belt in Biddulph.”
[Read more…]New cycling event to benefit Alsager residents
Sunday the 20th of September will see the launch of a new cycling event designed to raise funds for two Alsager based charities.

The two ‘Reliability Rides’ of 35 and 50 miles, together with a fun ride of around 10 miles, are being jointly organised by Alsager Rotary Club and Alsager Harlequins Cycling Club to raise funds for Alsager Food Bank and Alsager Rotary Charities, working with the young people of Alsager.

Changes to the town centre, highways work and more support for young people are just some of the things included in Biddulph’s latest proposed Action Plan.

The Action Plans are prepared annually by Biddulph Town Council to ensure that the authority’s decision-making process is transparent, and its finances are effectively managed.
This year’s proposed Action Plan is currently available for public download on the council’s website.
These are some of the Action Plan’s main points, and how the council is hoping to work towards the town’s improvement in the coming year.
[Read more…]Kidsgrove Station improvements back on track

Work on the £5 million project to install new lifts and footbridge at Kidsgrove Station is set to restart following a delay caused by the discovery of historic mineshafts.
The upgrade to install three new lifts at either side of platforms 1, 2, 3 and 4, as well as a brand new footbridge linking the platforms, was underway but was temporarily stopped after unmapped underground mine shafts were discovered and to allow a full survey to take place to fully understand the underground problems.
