New cycling event to benefit Alsager residents

Sunday the 20th of September will see the launch of a new cycling event designed to raise funds for two Alsager based charities.

A new cycling event is planned for Alsager residents

The two ‘Reliability Rides’ of 35 and 50 miles, together with a fun ride of around 10 miles, are being jointly organised by Alsager Rotary Club and Alsager Harlequins Cycling Club to raise funds for Alsager Food Bank and Alsager Rotary Charities, working with the young people of Alsager.

The ‘fun ride’ is ideal for anyone who can safely ride a bike on the road and covers a 10 mile route from the Horseshoe Inn on some delightfully quiet roads around Alsager. The majority of the route follows National Cycle Network roads in order to minimise traffic wherever possible. This ride will be a great opportunity for anyone who has dusted off their bike during ‘lockdown’ to enjoy a fun hour or so with like-minded folk on what will hopefully be a fine late summer day!

The two other routes take in some of the best lanes and byways within Cheshire, Shropshire and Staffordshire, with the 50 mile route including a climb of the iconic Mow Cop!

Entry to the family fun ride is £10 for up to 4 family members and the cost for either of the two reliability rides is a highly competitive £5. (All entrants under the age of 16 must be accompanied by an adult.) Entrants will be provided with either a paper map of the route or a gpx file to download and tea, coffee and biscuits will be provided at the finish of the event.

For anyone who needs to transport bikes to the event The Horseshoe Inn have kindly agreed to provide free parking. The 50-mile route will start at 08:00 with the 35 and 12 mile riders leaving at 08:30 and 09:30 respectfully.

The event provides a great opportunity for keen cyclists to take on a challenging ride or for anyone who can simply ‘turn the pedals’ to enjoy an hour or so’s gentle exercise around our local lanes while raising much needed funds for Alsager residents.

Further Information about the events can be obtained from Allan Smith (Alsager Rotary Club) 01270 879959 or allansmith992@btinternet.com or David Price (Alsager Harlequins Cycling Club) alsagerharlequinscyclingclub@gmail.com or via the Alsager Harlequins Facebook page.

The running of the event will be subject to the current Covid restrictions.
