The Kidsgrove town bus service – D&G buses route 80 – is set to lose its subsidy as part of Staffordshire County Council’s funding cuts which means it could be axed unless operators choose to run as a commercial service.
Staffordshire County Council is slashing its bus subsidy budget by £1.4 million, meaning support will be withdrawn from dozens of services. More than half-a-million bus journeys a year will be affected by council funding cuts. [Read more…]
Plans to build 14 new homes in Kidsgrove town centre have been recommended for approval.
The triangle shaped site is on the junction of Heathcote Street and Kinnersley Street and approximately 0.32 hectares size. It is regarded as a suitable location for new housing which would be beneficial for Kidsgrove town centre as it will tidy up an unsightly plot of land which is currently vacant having been used for parking and historically was occupied by terraced residential properties of which only one remains. An independent report comissioned by Kidsgrove Town Council into the current condition of the Sports Centre has been released.
Basic repairs are quoted to be around £300,000 with further work likely to be necessary in the coming years which could add up to £2.4 million which the consultants say would be better put towards the cost of building a new centre to higher standards. [Read more…]
Residents in Butt Lane who came together to turn a derelict parcel of land in the centre of their town into a Peace Garden in honour of local hero Reginald Mitchell have been left angered and shocked by the owners decision to put the land on the market weeks after work on the project saw benches and flower beds installed.
The sudden announcement of the sale is being considered by many as a cynical attempt to cash in on the goodwill of the community by the owners of the land, advertising giants JC Decaux, who have put it up for sale at auction to be held on16th October with a guide price of £35,000, leaving all those who have committed their time and money extremely disappointed. The new operator for the West Midlands rail network has confirmed that the direct train service to London will continue to call at Kidsgrove, Stone and Alsager stations.
There had been concerns that the new operators, West Midland Trains, would change the route when they take over in December meaning that passengers would have to change at Stafford to get to London but they have now confirmed that they are keeping the route which means Kidsgrove, Stone and Alsager are due to keep a direct service to London Euston. Changes to legislation mean that Dog Control Orders will cease in October 2017 unless a Public Spaces Protection Order (PSPO) is created to replace them.

Funding has been secured from the Illegal Money Lending Team’s Community Fund for a Community Financial Inclusion Project focused on the Miners’ Estate, Kidsgrove.
The main aims of the project are:-
