Proposals by Staffordshire County Council could see visitors to Greenway Bank Country Park having to pay to park there. The County Council are considering implementing car park charges to a number of country parks across the county due to the rise in visitor numbers which they say is resulting in costing them more to maintain the facilities. Square deal for Biddulph
Biddulph Town Councillors are to investigate the possibility of creating a ‘Town Square’ in front of the town hall. The proposal was made at a recent council meeting where a number of councillors supported the idea. A ‘Town Square’ would provide a focal point and provide a dedicated space for events to be held directly outside the town hall. A sub committee has now been set up to investigate the idea further and seek professional advice on the proposal.
Biddulph Fair-trade Town status renewed
Biddulph has received Fairtrade Town status for a further two years. In granting the renewal, the Fairtrade Foundation commented, “it is clear that Fairtrade is continuing to grow in Biddulph and… it is great to see how engaged the Fairtrade group are with Sainsbury’s, local churches, schools and community groups”. Gillian Reynolds, secretary to the Fairtrade Town group, said “I personally would like to add my own appreciation of the support for Fairtrade from the Biddulph community: especially from the members of Biddulph Town Council, and in the ongoing events such as the Open Cafe during the Biddulph festival each summer, and the Fairtrade Fortnight events that are put on each year by schools, churches and community groups.”
‘Community Trigger’ response to Anti Social Behaviour reports
New powers aimed at improving local responses to incidents of anti-social behaviour are now available to Biddulph residents.Known as the ‘community trigger’, the process gives individuals, businesses and community groups the right to request a review of the response to their reports of anti-social behaviour. Community hub for Princess Street

The official Biddulph 2015 calendar is now on sale. This year the calendar celebrates the achievements of Biddulph in Bloom and consists of 12 beautiful photos, of Biddulph and the surrounding area. Work on sports facilities at Halls Road due to start
Work on exciting new sports facilities at Halls Road playing fields in Gillow Heath is due to start at the end of July.
Plans for the scheme were passed in 2012 and will see the construction of a new multi-use games area, tennis courts, exercise stations and a new playground together with resurfacing and an extension to the car park to include 20 extra spaces and improvements to the footpaths.
Thornton Contractors Ltd has been awarded the contract and start on site on Monday 28 July. The work is expected to take up to 16 weeks to complete and the playing fields will remain open throughout but access to some areas may be restricted.
It follows further good news for Biddulph after planning approval was granted last week for a synthetic bowling green at St Lawrence recreation ground. [Read more…]
Bowlers get green
Plans for the bowling green on St Lawrence’s recreation ground have been approved by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council.
Bowlers have been without a home since the Labour Club was demolished to make way for the Sainsbury’s development in 2010.
The new floodlit all weather surface and pavillion will be built on the old tennis courts adjacent to St Lawrence’s Church and work is expected to start in the next few weeks. The grassed area will remain open to the public along with a footpath to the cemetery.
Tipping Point
Residents are still being urged to make their voices heard to stop the plans to close Bemersley Tip, Biddulph, Staffordshire Moorlands.
Campaigners believe that to close Bemersley Tip will cause much inconvenience to residents and will increase fly tipping.
Staffordshire County Council are proposing to start consultation to close Bemersley Tip. However, the Report on which the Council is using to form the basis of that consultation is flawed because of the many mistakes within it.
On 16th April 2014, the Cabinet withdrew this item from their cabinet discussions, but made it clear that it was not withdrawing the item, it was only going to defer the discussions, therefore action is needed now, please sign the petition.
