Kidsgrove Town Deal community consultation

On the 18th October 2025 there will be an opportunity for local residents to have an input to the design of the paved pedestrian area in front of the shops in King Street.

It is our intention to hold this at what was formerly Browns Garage, just around the corner on the junction of King Street and Whitehall Avenue from 11.00am until 2.00pm.

Many of the details and plans relating to the re-development in this vicinity have been shared and consulted on previously, but it will be a good opportunity for people to see what is planned, and more importantly, to give us your ideas and opinions as to how the paved area might be set out. Clearly there are limits as to what we can do, but we intend to incorporate benches, planters etc and we would like to know what local people think about our ideas for the transformation of this area.

By then, the refurbishment of the toilets should be complete, and we would welcome your views about the work carried out there.

We will also have the latest news on the programmes for the other works being carried out at the station, the King’s School and improvements to the town centre roads and car parks.

Please do come along and share your views. Paul Waring, Town and Borough Councillor/Town Deal Board Member.

Chance to have your say about Council services and the Council’s future

Staffordshire Moorlands District Council is running a new satisfaction survey to seek the views of residents and understand how they feel the Council is performing.

The last residents’ survey was carried out two years ago. This one comes as the Council and Staffordshire’s other councils are deep in responding to the Government’s plans for local government reorganisation due to be implemented from April 2028. Final reorganisation proposals have to be submitted by 28 November.

As such, there are some questions included about the future of local government including the opportunity for residents to select from three options for new council areas that all involve Staffordshire Moorlands. They include the Council’s preferred option.

There are also questions covering community safety, local decision making, value for money, and other public services.

One World’s aim is to celebrate the richness and diversity of cultures in our community and to look at problems common to all such as reducing plastic use and promoting recycling.

Organisors will be welcoming back ‘National’ stall holders along with ELF, Cheshire East recycling, Tools with a Mission, crafts by Messy Church, the ‘Henna’ girls and much much more.

Entry and refreshments are free so come along for a cuppa whilst soaking up the One World atmosphere!

Alsager Town Council Car Park Consultation

Residents have an opportunity to pay Cheshire East Council to allow Station Road and Well Lane car parks to be free of charge to use

Consultation with Alsager Residents: Station Road and Well Lane Car Parks Poll – please let the Town Council know your thoughts.

Alsager Town Council has the opportunity to pay Cheshire East Council to allow both Station Road and Well Lane car parks in Alsager to be free of charge to use. The contract with Cheshire East Council will be for 5 years and will cost Alsager Town Council circa £70,000 per annum. This will lead to an additional circa £12.10 in Council Tax for Alsager Residents for a Band D property each year for the next 5 years.

Alsager Town Council would like to know if, as a resident, you would pay this to allow both car parks to be free of charge to use. Please respond to the poll at https://www.smartsurvey.co.uk/s/DP0SNT/ Alternatively, you can take part in the poll by completing a hard copy which you can collect and return from Alsager Civic or Alsager Town Council Offices.

Closing date for responses is 19 October 2025.

Last Post for Kidsgrove?

Last Post for Kidsgrove?

Kidsgrove Post Office has been temporarily closed since 25th February 2025, due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’ with no replacement branch identified.

The Post Office have stated they are working to minimize the closure period and are exploring options to reinstate services, but no specific reopening date has been confirmed. They said “We are working hard to keep any period of closure to a minimum and we are currently investigating the options available which will enable us to reinstate a Post Office service to the local community.”

A response to a recent request for an approximate date for the reopening was “we have no updates regarding when the branch will reopen”, which has led to speculation that Kidsgrove may be left without a Post Office indefinitely.

In the interim, alternative branches are available at Butt Lane and Tunstall.

Town Deal or No Deal?

The Kidsgrove Town Deal, funded by the UK government’s Towns Fund, has been significantly scaled back.

The railway station overhaul has been downgraded to a refurbishment

Kidsgrove was selected as one of 100 towns across the UK to benefit from the government’s £3.6 billion Towns Fund, aimed at boosting local economies and improving infrastructure, with Kidsgrove securing £16.9 million.

Following consultations the main projects were decided to be a railway station upgrade with new car park, and a shared services hub with some town centre public realm improvements. But now due to funding limitations and project viability issues the Kidsgrove Town Deal is undergoing significant adjustments.

Cabinet say ‘Yes to North Staffordshire unitary authority` as local government reorganisation progresses

Leaders at Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) have backed proposals for a North Staffordshire unitary authority, which would see a single council covering Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-under-Lyme and the Moorlands, along with Stone and Uttoxeter.

SMDC’s proposal for a North Staffordshire unitary was recommended unanimously by a cross-party sub-committee made up of Labour, Conservative and independent councillors. The council’s Labour leaders, who backed the plans at their July 8 meeting, believe the plan will meet the government’s requirements while also being more financially sustainable than a unitary consisting of just Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle and the Moorlands. The proposals were debated at a council assembly meeting on Wednesday, July 9.

Rail station upgrade plans could be derailed

Funding could be withdrawn and money for improving Kidsgrove train station lost

The Kidsgrove train station upgrade has been subject to ongoing delays and uncertainty. The threat of subsidence caused by decades of coal-mining is delaying plans to improve the train station, build a transport interchange and parking for 200 cars.

Newcastle Borough Council was allocated £3.8 million in Levelling Up funds for a new car park, station forecourt, and extended station building. However, recent estimates show the project cost has risen to £5.5 million, exceeding the budget.
