Biddulph Festival 2025

This years Festival will be out of this world

Biddulph Festival kicks off on Saturday 28th June until the end of July 2025, a whole month of entertainment, fun and enjoyment with something for all.

This years theme is ‘Space’, so watch this ‘space’! The launch day begins with a café on the town hall steps at 10am and the festival launch parade is on Saturday 5th July at 11am, with entertainment at the front of the Town Hall. All local children are invited, via their schools or community groups, to take part in the procession through the town centre.

At midday the town centre is transformed into Biddulph by the sea. The sand pit will be opened, the Punch and Judy show will commence, the fairground rides will start and everything that you would expect from a classic seaside holiday will be going on into the afternoon. This will be a free event.

Making a welcome return will be the flower festival, evening walks with the ramblers, festival service, car show, cafe on the steps and the Festival of Brilliant to name but a few.

Alsager Carnival 2025

THE FUN STARTS NOW!!

The theme for this years Alsager Carnival on Saturday June 7th 2025 is Kids TV!

The parade will leave Fairview Car Park at 12 noon, and tour the village before entering Milton Park at approximately 1pm.

The floats will be judged, and prizes handed out in Milton Park before performers take to the main arena to entertain the crowds. This years headline performers in the main arena are a BMX show featuring the only BMX team in the UK that are able to move in and out of a shared arena.

With the BMX Show you can expect the riders to to fly through the air performing the most breath taking tricks and stunts. Only the very best BMX riders will be performing (including RedBull athletes) to guarantee you see the most impressive tricks – usually only seen on TV.

Elsewhere in the park, there’s going to be the usual mix of fairground rides, food, drink and charity stalls. Many of these stalls are aiming to raise funds to local good causes and we hope that you’ll support them all but there’s too many to mention specifically!

Last year was the biggest and best carnival we’ve ever had and we look forward to welcoming you all again this year to try and make this one even better! The date for your diaries is Saturday 7th June 2025.

New parking changes to come into effect

Evening & Sunday Car Park Charges will come into effect on 26 May

New changes to parking arrangements will come into effect at Cheshire East car parks on 26 May.

The decision comes following an extended six-week statutory consultation last year conducted by Cheshire East Council on proposals to introduce evening and Sunday parking charges.

There were 1141 valid responses to the consultation of which 96% were objections to the proposed charges. Impacts on town centre vitality were overwhelmingly the most frequently cited concern in the valid representations received. Feedback suggested that evening and Sunday charges could make some towns less attractive and encourage people to travel elsewhere for their business or use on-line shopping with a detrimental effect on town centre businesses. Increased social isolation was also a concern as the extra cost may impact community groups and charities with attendance being affected.

With the options considered the following principles are to be applied:

Clough Hall Park refurbishment

Works to develop a new play area and create more amenity space in Clough Hall Park are due to start.

The Clough Hall Park refurbishment project is part of ongoing efforts by Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council to enhance this community space. The vision is to replace underused features with more accessible open green space and modern amenities suitable for the local community.

This works include transforming the former unused bowling greens and tennis court area by removing them, regrading and reseeding the land to create more accessible open green space, refurbishing one of the existing sports courts, and installing a new toddler play area. This initiative also includes reinstalling existing ball walls to enhance recreational offerings.

The refurbishment follows the work to upgrade the tennis courts in the park for free public which was completed last summer. The courts have undergone extensive work to ensure viability for years to come, including resurfacing, repainting, new fencing, new nets and a new gate system.

The improvements are part of a broader vision to modernize and enhance the park to provide good quality sporting and recreational facilities for residents to encourage people to stay healthy and active.

Work on Town Hall frontage to start

Work on the development of Biddulph Town Hall frontage will start in February 2025 introducing a shared, same level space along the High Street to create a much more pedestrian friendly environment and calm traffic moving through the Town Centre.

Funding for the project has been secured from the UK Shared Prosperity Fund which is a central pillar of the UK government’s Levelling Up agenda. The Fund aims to improve pride in place and increase life chances across the UK by investing in communities and place, supporting local business and providing opportunities to boost people and skills.

The development of the frontage primarily involves plans to improve the area in front of the town hall by reconfiguring the current space by removing the existing railing to avoid clutter. The square will be designed as an extension of the existing green landscaped lawn with raised seating, with a particular focus on making the miners’ memorial wheel more prominent.
