This will be the 8th Well Dressing to be held in the village celebrating Trent Head Well.

The traditional tableau is being prepared at Christ Church Hall, Church Lane, and you are invited to come and see the well in the making from Tuesday 11th to Friday 14th June between 11am and 4pm.

On Saturday 15th June festivities will begin with music and Morris dancing on the village green and the dedication of the traditional well tableau will take place at 2pm. [Read more…]

Pay and display set for Biddulph streets

King Street copy 2Two streets in Biddulph town centre are set to have parking charges introduced.

Staffs County Council considered the proposal of introducing on-street parking in the High Street and King Street, in Biddulph at the last meeting of the Prosperous Staffordshire Select Committee.

The aim of the proposal is to ensure that the parking provided in town centres and elsewhere are appropriate for the situation and support the needs of the local community. [Read more…]

Aldi to come to Biddulph

aldiStaffordshire County Council have accepted an offer from supermarket chain Aldi for the former Meadows Special School site on Tunstall Road.

An offer was made by Aldi Stores Limited in November which was increased in December. Minutes from a sub-committee meeting state: ‘The Sub-Committee received a report on discussions held with the proposed purchaser of the site of the former Meadows Special School explaining that whilst the site had not been advertised on the open market, the proposed Terms of the sale secured ancillary developments of value to the County Council.’ and that it was: ‘RESOLVED – That a conditional contract be entered into with Aldi Stores Limited for the sale of the site of the former Meadows Special School on the Terms indicated.’ [Read more…]

Biddulph Fairtrade Fortnight

Biddulph is a Fairtrade Town, and most of the local churches are Fairtrade Churches. How will you celebrate it this year?

Sadly, the Annual Town Hall Fairtrade Celebration is having a gap-year. But that doesn’t mean the Biddulph Fairtrade Town Group has nothing planned. Biddulph Schools have all been invited to take part in a Fairtrade Poetry Competition: each school may enter one or two original poems relating to Fairtrade. The competition will be judged by Biddulph Town Councillors and the school entering the winning poem will be presented with the Fairtrade Town School-of-the-Year Shield. [Read more…]

Council to introduce new wheelie bin delivery charges

Wheelie binsCheshire East Council has announced it is to introduce a charge for the supply of new and replacement waste and recycling bins.

The charge for the supply of new and replacement standard 240-litre household bins will be £30 each for recycling, black residual and garden waste bin and £25 for a smaller-sized 140-litre residual, recycling and garden bin.

A 25 per cent concessionary rate will apply to residents on qualifying benefits, while any bins broken during the collection process will be replaced free of charge.

In the first instance of a bin being lost or stolen, a replacement will be provided free of charge but, if this recurs within three years, a charge will be made. [Read more…]

Funds needed to ease school run traffic chaos

Newpool 3 low resA church next to Knypersley First School have agreed to their car park being used to help ease school run traffic chaos but need £10,000 in order to do so.

Every morning and afternoon Newpool Road, Tunstall Road and Meadowside get dangerously congested and chaotic while parents drop off or collect children as the school has no parking for parents. The Life Stream Church in Newpool Road adjacent to the school has a large car park and have agreed to let the school have a key to open it to be used by parents during the busy school runs but the church have been informed by their insurers that they need to improve the standard of the car park surface before allowing this to happen. Biddulph Moor Bonfire & Fireworks Spectacular

bonfireThe Biddulph Moor Bonfire & Fireworks Committee with representatives from the community including Biddulph Moor Village Hall, the Parents Association of Moor First School, Oasis Church and Biddulph Moor Scout group, are once again, holding their Bonfire & Fireworks Spectacular.

The event will take place on Saturday 3rd November at Biddulph Moor Village Hall on Hot Lane, Biddulph Moor and gates will open at 6:00pm. [Read more…]

93 Bus Service connecting Biddulph

d&g busAt a meeting of Biddulph Town Council in the summer, they agreed to make up the shortfall towards the running costs of a new 93 bus service.

The service began in August and will run until mid – January 2019. The Town Council’s contribution accounts for approximately half the cost of the service, which has been commissioned by Staffordshire County Council.

At the meeting, Councillors received information in relation to the number of people that use the service and the likely route. There was cross-party consensus that, although the provision of a bus service is not the usual function of a Town Council, this important public service should not be lost. [Read more…]
