As well as returning affordable community leisure to Kidsgrove our plans very much focus around making the sports centre a true community hub. With this in mind, we were delighted to receive the support from Port Vale professional footballer Cristian Montaño who is so passionate about mental health. This is something which we are keen to work with him and other groups to help support & develop programmes within the centre.

During the general election campaign, he sent out a survey across Kidsgrove and Talke, seeking support for a CCTV upgrade. Over 1,000 people responded to the survey and 95 per cent of people said they backed the plan for a CCTV upgrade.

Stoke-on-Trent rail and canal campaigner Jon Honeysett MBE has donated framed railway heritage items for Kidsgrove Station customers to enjoy. Passengers waiting for a morning train at Kidsgrove already have the luxury of being able to sit in comfy seats and enjoy a hot drink and a snack courtesy of A Spotter Tea. They now have the opportunity to find out a bit about the history and development of the station and local rail network in the 20th century. Items include British Rail network maps from 1948 and 1960, a 1960 timetable and a photo of a steam train at Harecastle signal box.

The Council and Kidsgrove Community Interest Organisation (CIO) agree that procuring this service through the SCAPE national construction framework – with a view to awarding a contract – is the most sensible and practical route to reopening the gym and swimming pool in spring 2021 as planned.

The future of leisure provision at Kidsgrove Sports Centre is looking more certain and received further commitment from Newcastle’s Cabinet in October.

In July 2017, a Community Group Community Interest Organisation (CIO) was formed with the aim of re-opening part of the facility, the ‘dry-side’, over the next few years. Plans for the reopening of the swimming pool at that stage were considered too ambitious due to a lack of funding. [Read more…]

Newcastle-under-Lyme has been chosen to work with the Government to develop innovative regeneration plans which could unlock millions of pounds of investment.

The capital investment will come out of the Government’s £3.6 billion Towns Fund, which ministers say will help regenerate places with a ‘proud industrial heritage’ which have fallen behind more prosperous areas. [Read more…]
