Sports Centre news

Firstly, can we say a massive “thank you” to everyone who voted for us in the Tesco Bags of Help scheme.

We are pleased to report that Kidsgrove Sports Centre came 1st, so as a result we will receive £4,000 from Tesco – which will be put towards buying equipment to be used within the centre.

No one said that reopening Kidsgrove Sports Centre would be easy and that is very much proving to be the case. It is fair to say that a lot of progress has been made, however much of it is behind the scenes and mainly paperwork and processes based. As with any development project which involves the Council there is a considerable amount of processes and procedures that have to be followed – something that we are undertaking at the moment.

We have some positive news that our business proposal has been reviewed by industry experts and they agree that the community has a need for Kidsgrove Sports Centre and most importantly it can be operated successfully and sustainably under our charitable community structure.

In addition to this the initial plans from the architect have now been completed and shared with various stakeholders. The feedback has been really positive and we are now setting about getting the plans exactly costed via the use of a quantitative surveyor. Following this costing, final decisions will be made on the exact specification before tendering and work can begin renovating the centre!

The plans have been developed to purposely include both the dry-side and swimming provision at Kidsgrove Sports Centre, as we are fully committed and aware of the need to reopen the whole Sports Centre. It is vitally important that at this planning stage we get the plans right for a modern and sustainable Kidsgrove Sports Centre that will be able to meet the needs of our community for the foreseeable future.
