Plans to build 155 new houses off Sandbach Road North have again been rejected by Cheshire East Council.
Developers appealed against the council’s earlier decision to reject the first proposal on grounds that there are more suitable areas in Alsager for housing development but the Inspector appointed by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government has dismissed the appeal as “there would be serious harm resulting from the impact of the proposal on the character and appearance of the countryside.”
Campaigners are now focusing their attention to other unwanted development plans in the Alsager area. Alsager is considered to be currently ‘under siege’ from speculative development proposals that are trying to take advantage of a loophole in planning that allows development of greenbelt land if the council cannot demonstrate a five year supply of available strategic housing.
