Council launches free wi-fi service to library users

WiFi-LogoCheshire East Council is to give free wi-fi access to library members.

The service will be available across all of its 16 libraries for all library opening hours. Members can simply log in using their existing membership number and password/PIN. Anyone who isn’t a member can easily join free of charge. In addition to wi-fi they can then take advantage of a wealth of free resources. To join you just need to bring in one proof of identity showing name and address. The service is part of the Council’s aim to help people get online more easily through a modern library service and promotes digital inclusion across Cheshire East. The service will adopt the security filtering as on its public network in order to safeguard young people.

All your favourite Christmas music and more (James Bond through the years including 2015!) with at least 280 performers. Come and enjoy giving (in aid of Motor Neurone Disease Charity) with at least 280 performers, tickets £10. If you can’t make it you can watch on the Big Sing on the BBC at 4pm.

Xmas Toy Appeal Logo 2015Over the last 4 years, CVS Cheshire East has been working with Storage Boost in Crewe and staff from AstraZeneca’s Alderley Park site to provide Christmas presents for families in real need across Cheshire East.

The toys and gifts that are donated are given to local charities and organisations who work with families and children who may be facing an extra hard time at Christmas. Without these donations, some of the children involved wouldn’t receive any other gifts at Christmas, something that we wouldn’t want any family to have to go through. Health & well being event in Biddulph

We_Are_MacMillanCancer patients and carers offered lesson in how to live well Cancer patients, along with family members and carers, are being encouraged to go to a free health and well being event in Biddulph.

The Living Well with Cancer taster session is being organised by the partnership between Macmillan Cancer Support and Penny Brohn Cancer Care, and is being held at the Victoria Centre in Station Road, Biddulph, on Thursday, November 5th. During the afternoon, people attending the session will hear talks so that they can learn how to support themselves during and after treatment, find out the benefits of stress management, healthy eating and physical activity, discover the support services available in the area and meet other people affected by cancer. A good deal for Kidsgrove?

Sports CentreThe County Council and Newcastle Borough Council have announced that they will work together on a number of projects in Newcastle and Kidsgrove. Called ‘District Deal 2’, the collaboration is aimed at boosting Newcastle and Kidsgrove town centres. The main aims include:- The Ryecroft development playing a key part in improving the economic fortunes of Newcastle town centre; Jointly developing a town centre master plan for Kidsgrove and working towards the delivery of a new sports centre and pool in the town. The deal pulls together ideas and millions of pounds’ worth of projects, already underway or being planned, to ensure a joint approach pays dividends for residents and businesses. [Read more…]

Award for Kidsgrove Station

Kidsgrove station april 2015adKidsgrove has been named as a winner in the 2015 East Midlands Trains Best Stations Awards. Kidsgrove won the award for Best Small Station following the opening of the new community station cafe ‘A Spotter Tea’ and the involvement of a wide range of external business and local schools to create an improved station environment. The awards, which are now in their sixth year, celebrate the best of the train operator’s 89 stations under different categories, and are made by a panel of judges comprising independent passenger watchdog, Transport Focus, as well as East Midlands Trains’ directors and senior managers. Kidsgrove on the right road

Liverpool Road Oct 2015 low res copyRoads in the centre of Kidsgrove are undergoing £105,000 improvements. Staffordshire County Council’s highways team are resurfacing part of the A50 Liverpool Road and a section of the B5371 The Avenue, in addition to repairing kerbs and pavements. Work on the seven-week project began on Monday, September 28 and set to be completed by Thursday November 12. Temporary traffic lights will be in place until October 12. Resurfacing of The Avenue will take place overnight (7pm to 7am) on Tuesday October 27, when a section of the road will be closed at the A50 Liverpool Road junction. [Read more…]

Festival of Remembrance
