Grants available to improve rural areas

 

biddulph moorTwo new schemes starting this month are offering grants from £2,500 upwards to help small businesses, farmers and community groups in parts of Staffordshire Moorlands to develop and grow.

The Staffordshire LEADER Rural Grants Scheme, which has a total budget of £2.24 million, is managed by Staffordshire County Council and covers the rural south of the Moorlands.

A total of £1.7 million is available from the Peak LEADER Rural Grants Scheme, managed by Derbyshire County Council, which covers northern and western part of the Moorlands including all of Leek town centre, Froghall, Kingsley, Biddulph Moor, Oakamoor, Cotton and all sites within the National Park boundary.

Kidsgrove Station regeneration

Kidsgrove station april 2015adThanks to a determined partnership bid, backed by outstanding support from the Kidsgrove community, Kidsgrove was one of only two community rail stations to be awarded ‘Access for All’ funding by the Department for Transport (DfT).

Access for All will fund a £multi-million new station footbridge project that will make access to the station easier for everyone, particularly people with reduced mobility. Since the good news was announced, the Kidsgrove station regeneration team has been busy working to add value to the footbridge project and secure additional funding to completely regenerate Kidsgrove through: New transport interchange : New, larger car park : Improved station facilities. Tesco in the community

Tesco com champs dec 2015 3Rich Stephenson Evans, Community Officer at Tesco Kidsgrove, was approached by the committee of Butt Lane Petanque club for help in refurbishing Congleton Road Community Centre, where they are based, as part of Tesco’s policy of supporting the community.

Following an inspection of the centre it was found to be in need of extensive redecorating internally to sort out cracks and holes in walls. With a team of local Tesco maintenance staff from Crewe and Stoke Trent Vale stores, and from residents George Bunn and Dave Blunt, it has now been transformed to its former glory. Congleton Road Communnity Centre is used by a number of groups who will now benefit from the refurbishment. [Read more…]

Kidsgrove Victorian Christmas Weekend

 

victorian christmasThis year’s Kidsgrove Victorian Christmas Market and offical Christmas lights switch on will take place on Saturday 28th November, 10am-4pm at the Town Hall.

The event will include the Kidsgrove Rotary Santa Clause Grotto, Victorian Tea Rooms, traditional and vintage stalls, local hand-made products, Christmas entertainment and professional crafts. Year on year, the Victorian Market in Kidsgrove has attracted hundreds of people from far and wide. This is an event not to be missed. [Read more…]

Tesco memorial tree

 

Tescotreedec2013Tesco Kidsgrove have again put up a memorial Christmas tree at the entrance to the store where customers can leave messages for loved ones no longer here to celebrate Christmas with them.

The messages are written on a star which is then hung on the tree. Every year the tree gets more popular and last year 1558 star messages were left on the tree which were taken to a local church on Christmas eve to be blessed. A small donation can be made when leaving stars with the money collected going to Diabetes UK and the British Heart Foundation, last year £1013 was raised.

 

Bobbies raise £30,000 to send disabled children on dream Disney World holiday

Biddulph Police Dec 2015A team of 17 officers, from Staffordshire Police, has celebrated the successful completion of a 530 mile charity bicycle ride, from Blackpool Tower to the Eiffel Tower, by announcing that they have smashed their fundraising target.

Riders from the ‘Tower to Tower 500’ team (TT500) told guests at their ‘Wrap Party’, held at the Victoria On The Square public house, in Hanley, on Wednesday 7th October 2015, that they had raised an incredible £30,688 from their 6-day challenge. And now the cash will be used to fund places on Caudwell Children’s annual ‘Destination Dreams’ holiday. The fully supported family trip to Disney World, in Florida, is arranged to give 25 children with life threatening illnesses a ‘Dream’ holiday. [Read more…]

biddulph christmas tree2Biddulph Town Christmas Lights Switch on Saturday 28th November A free family event with free all day parking!

Market stalls and funfair attractions in the High Street from 3pm, followed by entertainment on the town hall frontage, with the Lights Switch-on at 6pm followed by the arrival of Santa in his sleigh! Free visit to Santa’s grotto within the town hall. Rock and Roll, along with one or two seasonal festive favourites will again be provided by Biddulph’s oldest Boy Band ‘Terrinova’ . The band, billed as older than Mick Jagger and better looking than Keith Richards, comprises two former mayors Frank Harris and John Jones, along with local rockers Terry Tatton, Graham Edge and Roger Jones; together proving beyond all doubt that, you’re never too old to Rock n’ Roll.

biddulph moor christmas tree low resBiddulph Moor Christmas Lights Switch On Saturday 5th December, festivities start at 4.15pm, and the tree will be lit at 5.30pm. There will be carol singing, live music, hot food, stalls, a barbecue and of course a visit from Santa. It will all take place in the centre of the village, by The Green, at the top of Woodhouse Lane. A warm welcome is extended to all.
