Kidsgrove Sports Centre News

2020 will be remembered for many reasons. One of the more positive ones should be – the year that as a community we have finally seen work begin on refurbishing Kidsgrove Sports Centre.

Work has started stripping out

If all is going to plan at this time of reading, contractors Willmott Dixon (appointed by NBC, under the SCAPE framework), will be busy inside the sports centre stripping out the building. The plan is very much to have a completely refurbished building which will be more modern and efficient to operate, whilst retaining much of the original character of the building.

There are going to be plenty of challenges ahead. Kitting out the building is one of the most pressing issues, along with thinking about the staffing requirements at the centre. Of course, all of this is before we even consider the operating costs that go alongside running a leisure centre with a swimming pool.

As you will be aware, we have always been open and honest about the costs of operating Kidsgrove Sports Centre. Our projections suggest operating costs will be around £600,000 per year, much of that due to the centre providing our community with swimming pool provision. We know how important Kidsgrove Sports Centre is to the whole community and with your support and usage there is every reason to believe it will be successful. The reality is that as a charitable community run centre, every single £1 spent in the centre will be reinvested back into the centre and our community. There is no profit making, helping to ensure that it will not only survive, but thrive!
