Green Flag status for Milton Park

Milton Park low res2Milton Park in Alsager has been recognised as being among the very best in the UK.

Milton Park scooped a Green Flag Award – a sign to the public that the space boasts the highest possible environmental standards, is beautifully maintained and has excellent visitor facilities, over the summer.

Councillor Brian Roberts, Cheshire East Council cabinet member for highways and waste, said: “Our parks and green spaces are some of our best and well-visited assets and so it is a fantastic achievement to have achieved Green Flag status, recognising their outstanding attributes.

“The award recognises the council’s commitment to protecting and improving the environment and to encouraging more residents to be active, it also honours those who spend a great deal of time and effort maintaining our parks to these high standards  – including our own teams at Cheshire East and the volunteers and community groups across the borough, who take great pride in ensuring our parks remain great places to spend time, relax and have fun.”

Milton Park received the Green Flag status on first application, with the award an important element of the council’s commitment to ‘quality of place’ for the region. The popular facilities in Milton Park, off Crewe Road, include a children’s play area, junior football pitch, a rose garden and ornamental lawn area. The award for this park recognises the result of a long-term programme of works carried out in partnership with the friends group and other local organisations.

The Green Flag award is given to authorities that deliver a parks service to an international standard. All parks are measured on how well they are maintained, how sustainable they are, along with their contributions to conservation and heritage.
