Public toilets in Kidsgrove and Newcastle have won awards in a national competition.
The toilets in Heathcote Street, Kidsgrove, have gained a silver rating in the Loo of the Year Awards while manned conveniences in Hassell Street and Merrial Street, Newcastle, have maintained their gold awards.
The three toilets – maintained by Newcastle-under-Lyme Borough Council – were judged on signage and communication, décor and maintenance, fixtures and fittings, cleanliness, hygiene equipment, changing facilities and security as part of a competition run by the British Toilet Association to improve the standard of facilities for customers.
Cllr. Ann Beech, Cabinet member for environment and recycling, said: “Public conveniences in the borough are renowned for their high standards but this year council staff have managed to raise the bar even higher.”
