Christmas shopping in Kidsgrove can be a challenge!

christmas_bauble_608346All Kidsgrove shoppers and their families are invited to take part in the ‘Kidsgrove Christmas Shopping Challenge’ taking place in the run up to Christmas.

The Kidsgrove Christmas Shopping Challenge will take place throughout December, launching at the Victorian Market in Kidsgrove Town Hall on 30th November and running to 24th December.

The challenge is simple – shoppers have a map with the name and location of all participating retailers, a total of 20 are taking part. Families visit the shops and collect bauble stickers which they use to a decorate a Christmas tree picture on the map. When they’ve filled their tree (10 stickers needed), they can swap it for a chocolate treat and a certificate, there is no purchase needed. All participants will also be eligible to enter a prize draw to be drawn in the New Year.

The Kidsgrove Christmas Shopping Challenge will be a very family focused event, having a positive social and economic impact by creating a sense of fun, excitement, some competition, and a community spirit. By supporting independent retailers you are helping ensure our town centre has a chance of survival. The Centre for Local Economic Strategies researched the value of a £1 spent locally – the results were compelling, sufficient to convince most people that when they shop locally they are genuinely having a positive impact on their community!

They discovered that for every £1 spent locally around 50p – 70p of that money recirculates back into the local economy. For the same £1 spent out of town or online only 5p trickles back to the local community. Shoppers are being encouraged to spend a small proportion of their Christmas budget – be that on gift and food shopping, partying or pampering – with local, independent businesses.

You can help YOUR TOWN by taking part in the Kidsgrove Christmas Shopping Challenge.
