The Tom Lowe Boxing Club in Market Street, Kidsgrove, has been selected by Sport England to receive £50k of lottery funding.
The money will be used to refurbish the club facilities going towards new showers, doors and windows, plastering, heating and air conditioning and sports equipment. It will also enable them to increase their opening times from three to five nights a week and allow them to take on more members.
Currently the club, which has been running since 2007 and started with just 4 members, now has around 36 regular boxers with a waiting list of over 80. Owner Tom Lowe says that the club has grown more popular over the recent years and that the funding will allow them to open extra evenings and take on up to 30 new members.
