Writing’s on the wall for children at Fire Station

Fire station art thumb_IMG_6646_1024Three Alsager schools have been involved in a project with Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service to display artwork at Alsager Fire Station conveying key fire safety messages.

Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service worked with the schools, Cranberry Academy, Pikemere Primary and Highfields Primary, encouraging the children to draw a variety of pictures to represent key fire safety messages. A safety advocate went into each of the schools and delivered a talk around road and fire safety to give the children the information they needed to produce the artwork ideas. These drawings were then given to a design company to use alongside key safety messages to create the five panels.

These drawings were then used as part of five panels on the wall behind the station which backs onto Milton Park which were officially launched on Thursday 5 November. The artwork reinforces the Service’s main safety themes around home safety, road safety, protecting the environment and staying safe around fire. Chair of the Fire Authority, Cllr John Joyce, met the children at the site and told them he was staggered at the quality of their artwork. He said: “I am genuinely bowled over by what the children have achieved. This was another great way for us to engage with young people and get them to be part of educating the general public that use the park. They were very excited to be part of the project and I think their drawings alongside our key safety messages make a real impact. They should be very proud of the work they have done.”
