Victoria Gardens scheme in Station Road gets go ahead

Victoria Gardens drawingThe planning application for the community gardens in Station Road adjacent to Sainsbury’s have been approved by Staffordshire Moorlands District Council Planning Committee.

The project in Station Road, Biddulph, is set to include new fountains, benches and a statue paying tribute to its mining heritage using £60,000 of Section 106 money given to the Town Council to carry out works in the area left over from the development of Sainsbury’s Store.

The proposed design includes six circular paved areas, which will be interlinked. One will feature a floral bed and there will also be a fun play area. The mining tribute is set to be shaped like an obelisk and would honour colliery workers who have died.

The scheme is being overseen by Biddulph Town Council, Chief Officer Sarah Haydon who said: “The money has to be used by 2019 and the town council has been working with a local architect BP Architecture to come up with some ideas.

One idea has been to have little fountains and we wanted a statue to honour the miners, and a community garden that would make that area a bit nicer. The council will have to cost up any ideas. It may well end up that we can’t afford some things or will need to find further funding.”

We are absolutely delighted that Staffordshire Moorlands District Council Planning Committee voted to approve the application for the development of Station Road.

We’re looking forward to moving forward with the next stage and excited about improving this area for the residents of Biddulph.”
