New Tea Rooms at Biddulph Grange Gardens

New café and visitor facilities planned for Biddulph Grange Garden

This summer exciting new facilities are being built for visitors at Biddulph Grange Garden.

There are plans to open a beautiful new tea room in the historic Camellia House in time for the summer holidays. The Camellia House was originally used by garden creator James Bateman in the 1840s to store his ferns and Camellia collection, it was later used as part of the hospital at Biddulph Grange and more recently was a shop.

Project coordinator, Daniel Atherton, explained: “We are really excited to open up this new space for visitors, using the Camellia House as a tea room really helps us tell the story of its original purpose and also allows us to better present the adjacent Drawing Room. This room is a really fine example of Victorian interior design, so having a lovely tea room next door will give people plenty of opportunity to appreciate its splendour and look out over the garden while they enjoy their refreshments.”

In addition to the new tearoom the kitchen is being expanded and toilets upgraded. Biddulph Grange Garden will stay open throughout the works. Work began in mid-June and is expected to be complete before the autumn.
