Funding to beat loan sharks on the Miners’ Estate

loanshark-1low resFunding has been secured from the Illegal Money Lending Team’s Community Fund for a Community Financial Inclusion Project focused on the Miners’ Estate, Kidsgrove.

The main aims of the project are:-

· To improve community awareness of     Loan Sharks and how to deal with them.

· To develop a network of Community      Champions to spread the message.

Two training and information days have been arranged for early November for any people interested in the project; local residents, community groups and representatives of organisations working in the area. The dates are:

· Tuesday 7th November, 10.00am to 4.00pm, Galley Centre,

   Whitehall Avenue, Kidsgrove.

·  Wednesday 8th November, 3.00pm to 9.00pm, Kidsgrove Tesco.

Training will be free and the sessions will be split in to two sections:-

1) Loan Shark training delivered by the Illegal Money Lending Team (2 hours). People receiving the training will gain enough basic knowledge of the issues to be able to pass that on to others within their community.

2) General information and advice. Debt advice and benefit checking by Staffordshire North and Stoke-on-Trent CAB and Newcastle Borough Council will also be available.
