Dementia Awareness Week

Working-to-Become-Dementia-FriendlyDementia Awareness Week

Monday 21 May – Sunday 27 May is Dementia Awareness Week This is the week when everyone is asked to do something, however small, to help make a difference to people living with dementia.

Alsager Partnership will be launching a new activity session for people experiencing dementia and their carers during this week. We are all grateful to the organisations in the town, who have generously donated to our Therapy Table Tennis Table fund including Alsager School, Lions, U3A, Rotary, Ladies Circle and others. This will enable people with early stage dementia to enjoy a popular activity, using equipment specially designed by the BAT (Bounce Alzheimer’s Therapy) Foundation and Alzheimer’s Society to help overcome the visual difficulties that they may encounter when playing with standard equipment.

BAT is a national charity that has investigated the benefits table tennis can have physically, mentally and emotionally on those living with Alzheimer’s. Representatives from the foundation will be on hand to demonstrate the advantages of this drug free therapy. The BAT Foundation representatives are currently engaged in delivering a number of tables across the country and promoting a wider understanding of the positive impact that the therapy tables can have.

We will also be showcasing our Project to help the schools in Alsager become Dementia Friendly. Alsager School and all five Primary Schools are taking part in the project.

The Memory Café continues to meet on the last Friday of the month 10.30 am to 12.30 pm and Chance to Dance takes place on the third Wednesday of the month.
