Goldenhill Golf Course may be opening again as a deal to sell it off is believed to be near completion.
The course which includes a driving range, clubhouse and shop was closed in 2011 and has been available to lease from Stoke City Council since but has fallen into a state of decline becoming a target for travellers and vandals in recent years.
The course has been regularly used for walking, fishing, running and biking by residents and visitors since the golf club closed and in 2016 more than 400 people signed a petition calling for it to be turned into a nature reserve.
The latest move by the City Council to dispose of the Green Belt site ‘by way of the outright sale of the freehold’ is aimed to bring the course back into use as it has lain vacant for the past 7 years due to any interested parties coming forward prepared to take on the lease.
Anyone wishing to object to the sale of Goldenhill Golf Course has until February 7 to contact David Hughes, assistant director for place, growth and prosperity, at Floor 4, Civic Centre, Glebe Street, Stoke-on-Trent, ST4 1HH.
