The current level of fire cover at Kidsgrove is to be maintained following a review.

The future of the Kidsgrove Community Fire Station in Lower Ash Road came under threat as the Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service reviewed their operations in order to try and save £1.7 million for the next financial year. The need to meet financial challenges due to cuts in funding and a decrease in demand (over the past 5 years fire calls in the Kidsgrove area have fallen from 383 to 85 per year) led to the review of how the Fire Service combines their prevention, protection and response activities. Clough Hall Bowling Club has been awarded funding to install security measures to prevent anti-social behaviour and damage to the premises.

The Bowling Club is to be made more secure thanks to a £2000 grant from the Police and Crime Commissioner’s People Power Fund. They have suffered from disruption at the club in the past including an arson attack which damaged the pavillion and have frequent problems with youths breaking in to play football and drink on the site. The money will be used to install cameras and follows a £10,000 lottery grant three years ago, which was used to put in new toilets and a six-foot spiked fence. [Read more…]

 

Jon Honeysett MBE outlined the need for co-ordinating North Staffordshire’s canal projects at a recent Clough Hall Residents Association meeting.

Canal upgrading projects should form a wider Transport Manifesto as promoted by the North Staffs Pensioners Convention, based in Hanley, he suggested. At the conclusion of the talk, the Residents Association agreed to support the aims of the Pensioners Convention, which included possible future provision of two Tourism Day Boats, based at Etruria, for use between Kidsgrove and Stone, by Industrial Archeaology tourists and local community groups alike [Read more…]

The future of how fire services are to be provided in Kidsgrove are to undergo a review that could see the Kidsgrove Community Fire Station in Lower Ash Road closed down.

Over the next 12 weeks the Fire Service will be consulting with the community on the options for change.

There are four options being considered for Kidsgrove:

• Only have the station operational at times of highest demand.

• Replace the current fire appliance with a smaller vehicle and crew.

• To remove the fire appliance and crew from Kidsgrove.

• Work with Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service to provide a combined response from stations at Alsager and Kidsgrove.

The need to meet financial challenges due to cuts in funding and a decrease in demand (over the past 5 years fire calls in the Kidsgrove area have fallen from 383 to 85 per year) has led to a review of how the Fire Service combines their prevention, protection and response activities to make communities safer, meet the challenge of reduced public sector funding and reflect the changing demands and risks placed on the Service. An application has been submitted to Newcastle Under Lyme Borough Council for this site in the rookery – Rookery Heights – to be considered in the latest local plan for housing development.

The Rookery Heights Project would consist of 73 affordable homes ranging from starter homes to family homes all with parking and gardens. A feasibility study is currently being conducted via social media @rookeryheights on twitter and facebook.

The Rookery Heights Team value peoples opinions on development in this area.

A group set up to promote Kidsgrove have identified Kidsgrove’s rich heritage as a potential way to attract more visitors to the town. The Go Kidsgrove group aim to utilise the historical Harecastle Tunnel and Trent and Mersey canal to increase visitor numbers to the town. They have outlined a scheme to improve the canal waterfront to make it more appealing. Multi-million pound plans to provide new leisure facilities in Kidsgrove have won approval. The borough council’s Cabinet has confirmed its support for the replacement of the town’s aging sports centre following an in-depth report produced by a working group of councillors. The report states that there is currently an under provision of water space in the Borough and therefore the loss of the pools at Kidsgrove would result in a significant level of under provision. Joan Walley was awarded with the Freedom of Kidsgrove on December 12th in recognition of her dedicated service to the area. In a special ceremony Councillors gave the honour for the first time in the Town’s history, with Mayor David Allport and Deputy Mayor Sylvia Dymond in attendance, and Cllr Kyle Robinson as master of ceremonies introducing performances from the University Academy of Kidsgrove’s Choir and from the Tamil Dancers of the Tamil School of Stoke-on-Trent, depicting the need to support cancer sufferers and their families. The ICL name could once again be associated with the manufacture of computers in Kidsgrove. International Computer Logistics based in Butt Lane who trade as ICL, are a bespoke repair and refurbishement service but they are moving into the manufacture of computers, tablets and phones at their Cedar Avenue base. Owner Kevin Jones is giving the ICL name a new lease of life by reintroducing the ICL branding with an up to date range of products.
