Alsager Swans

swansOn Saturday 13th July, the Alsager Swans Swimming Therapy Club celebrated its 40th birthday by holding a party for members past and present at Church Lawton Memorial Hall.

Nearly 100 people enjoyed a magician, disco and buffet, as well as the presentation of the club trophies and awards.

The club formed in 1979 and known to the community of Alsager as The Swans, has helped hundreds of people in South Cheshire and North Staffordshire by means of water therapy endorsed by the Halliwick training method. Our youngest member is 4 years old and the eldest is in her mid 80’s.

The Swans is a voluntary organisation and welcomes anyone of any age who has a physical and /or learning need and would benefit from swimming exercise. We have members who are recovering from operations and strokes, members who are nervous of water and members who find the traditional swim club or public swim session difficult to enjoy for a variety of reasons. Some members are in wheelchairs, whilst some are on the autistic spectrum.

Support for our swimmers is on a 1:1 basis and provided by Volunteer Instructors. The Swans are a registered charity and as well as offering swimming sessions, there is also a social side to the club where day trips and other functions are organised.

The Swans meet at Alsager Leisure Centre every Sunday evening from 6 to 7 pm. If you would like to volunteer then please come down to a session and talk to us.You will be made very welcome!
